Nicolas' visits: "GELUCK EXPOSE LE CHAT" at the Musée MAILLOL

In 1983, cartoonist, comedian and radio commentator Geluck invented Le Chat, which in just a few years became a comic-book icon and the subject of numerous exhibitions, including monumental bronze sculptures on the Champs-Élysées in 2022. This exhibition revisits the creation of Le Chat, now forever associated with Geluck, through the discovery of the artist's youthful drawings, watercolors, and the character's beginnings and development. The many media used by the artist are highlighted: sketches, original drawings, plates, acrylic canvases, silkscreens, unlikely objects and sculptures.

Philippe Geluck is himself the curator of the exhibition, in which visitors can discover him and Le Chat addressing prestigious artists such as Warhol, Picasso, Banksy, Vermeer and Courbet. In this list of great predecessors, Courbet is not mentioned by chance, as one room will be devoted to L'Origine du monde (not the one painted by Gustave Courbet, but a scrupulous copy attributed to René Magritte - a painting never before exhibited), whose story is surrealist in its own right.
