From Hôtellerie du Clos to Verneuil la Douce: When heritage becomes an ode to art
From L'Hôtellerie du Clos to Verneuil la Douce:
The Renaissance of a Normandy landmark
More than a century of memories, from lunches at the École des Roches to the splendors of Relais & Châteaux: the former Hôtellerie du Clos is a place of legend. Discover how its new incarnation, Verneuil la Douce, has succeeded in transforming this soulful heritage into a contemporary "Demeure d'art" , where poetry and gastronomy reinvent Norman hospitality.
The town of Verneuil-d'Avre-et-d'Iton has just witnessed a major chapter change in its hotel history. The launch of Verneuil la Douce marks the succession of a legendary establishment: L'Hôtellerie du Clos. Much more than just a hotel, this soul-filled place was for decades a rallying point, a landmark of tradition and an inexhaustible source of family memories.
Le Clos: Over a Century of Heritage
Hôtellerie du Clos was an institution. Over a century old, the establishment, famous for its Anglo-Norman architecture inspired by Viollet-le-Duc and its status (once a Relais & Châteaux), embodied classic refinement.
It's a place that remains engraved in our collective memory, especially for us former students of theÉcole des Roches. For generations, L'Hôtellerie du Clos, carefully managed by the Simon family, was the setting for precious Sunday lunches (the only day out), birthday parties and family reunions.birthday parties and family reunions, making it one of the region's most cherished places of memory.
Verneuil la Douce: Heritage Pushed Towards Art
In October 2025, founder Camille Agnès OMERIN breathed new life into this legendary address. The establishment became Verneuil la Douce, strongly affirming its identity as a "Demeure d'Art".
Far from breaking with the past, this transformation is a powerful reinterpretation, where every detail becomes a work of art and every space an invitation to "slow down and wonder".
- The Concept: An "Ode to Art" where hospitality becomes an artistic language. The historic brick architecture is preserved, but warmed up by an interior design that integrates contemporary art.
- Artistic Immersion: The hotel has been entrusted to several artists who have made the walls their canvas:
- Yassine MEKHNACHE created a monumental fresco in the stairwell.
- Ségolène DERUDDER dotted the rooms with frescoes and lyrical poetry.
- Margot Gillot uses natural techniques (lime, casein) in the bathrooms, highlighting the value of craftsmanship.
- La Table: Le Restaurant Patiné: The former gourmet restaurant has been replaced by the Patiné restaurant, which celebrates the richness of Normandy's terroir "from sea to land". It offers a double menu:
- A bistronomic menu available 7 days a week with continuous service.
- A high-flying gastronomic table, offered in the form of "Sonnets" menus (3, 5 or 7 courses), available from Thursday evening to Sunday lunchtime.
Verneuil la Douce takes up the challenge of perpetuating a century-old place while giving it a bold new soul, to create new memories in a setting where luxury is intimately linked to artistic contemplation.
