Alexandre de LA TOUR D'AUVERGNE (Vallon 1952-1957)

Deaths - In memoriam of Alexandre de la Tour d'Auvergne

It was with great sadness that AERN learned from its son Charles-Alexandre of the death of Alexandre de la Tour d'Auvergne, after a long and courageous battle with illness.

This great friend, a leading figure at the school (Vallon 1952-1957), was the brother of Georges-Henri (Petit-clos 1953-1958), and the son of Charles (Collège de Normandie 1921-1925) who had sent them from Argentina, where they lived, to Les Roches, to perfect their French. He was also the nephew of Godefroi, formerly of Clères and brother of Charles.

After the first year of secondary school, Alexandre returned to Buenos Aires to take his baccalaureate and become an agricultural engineer. With his studies successfully completed, Alexandre went on to become a major landowner, taking over the management of the family farm and livestock business. He was president and one of the most active members of the Argentine Association of Hereford Breeders, a cattle breed of which he was a unanimously recognized specialist. Today, his son Charles is at the head of the company.

Despite the thousands of kilometers that separated him from his school, he never failed to pay his dues, always accompanying them with a donation, a mark of his profound generosity. At its meeting on January 18, the committee unanimously awarded him the title of benefactor member, which, as his son confirmed, gave him great pleasure.

Until the last few days, he had been keen to take part in the virtual Apéroches on Zoom, sharing with his old friends the wonderful memories that had built him up.

Alexandre left with his faith firmly anchored in his body. Having spoken to him a few days before his death, I was able to admire his serenity in the face of this final journey, which we will all have to face.

On behalf of myself, the committee and all our alumni, I would like to offer his wife Flavia, his daughter Andréa, his sons Charles-Alexandre and Jean-Michel, and his twelve grandchildren our most sincere condolences and prayers at this particularly painful time.

We already miss Alexandre's kindness, smile and goodness.

Rest in peace dear Alejandro!

Jean Cohen
President of AERN
